A little loud, but it works well. The speed and temperature for the dryer are on two different switches, which I really like. The dryer I was using prior to this got hotter as you increased the speed, so high speed was too hot for my dog.
There are only 5 positions you can adjust the stand to, but that seems to be enough. I used it the other night to dry both of my dogs and it was much easier than the hand held dryer I used to use. Being able to brush and dry at the same time makes the drying process go much faster.
