Petmate Deluxe Fresh Flow Pet Fountain Immediately

I got this automatic water bowl for my 20 pound dachshund, Pickles, because I liked the fact that it said it would circulate the water. It, however, would barely move the water with its weak and basically useless pump.
The pump never had the power to produce much of a stream of water and it would randomly make a ton of loud noises.
It was a pain to clean and basically needed to be disassembed and reassembled each time to clean it properly.
The pump totally stopped working after a little more than 2 months. It would be nice to sell something that does what it says and to a normal standard.
My husband always hated it for some reason and said it was 'evil' and 'going to burn down our house one day' I thought that was a little dramatic but it never impressed him.
I felt it is a good idea cause I hate to see stagnant water in Pickles' water bowl but they need to redesign the pump with one that actually works since most people are probably buying it for the pump.

Drinkwell Original Pet Fountain Best Quality

I've been through three water fountains by similar manufacturers and this was the last one we bought prior to our new ceramic one which was purchased through Dr. Fosters website (Bridgeport Onyx Waterer).

Our dog would NOT drink out of this fountain. He seems to dislike the taste of the water because of the plastic or it could be the loudness of this fountain. This is NOT quiet. It's super loud so if you have a skittish dog - don't get this.

We bought the Dr. Fosters water fountain from their website. It's double the cost but it's absolutely beautiful and totally silent.

Basically, here's the differences:


Drinkwell:

(1) Loud - Motor is not quiet at all even at lowest setting due to vibration of plastic. We cleaned it, moved it, put towels under it - you can still hear it! Our dog wouldn't approach it and we tried and tried. This was the third of the fountains we purchased that were plastic. All had the same issue.

(2) Cleaning - Difficult but light weight - gets slimy if you don't regularly clean it thoroughly

(3) Ugly - Unattractive to both you and your pet.

(4) Cheap Quality - It's durable and light BUT it's definitely just a hard plastic. There is nothing attractive about it. They sell this at Petco if you want to go look at it.



Dr. Fosters Ceramic Fountain - Bridgeport Onyx Waterer

(1) Silent - Vibration masked by the ceramic heavy fountain (could be fact that fountain motor is a little smaller)

(2) Attractive - Beautiful - Kinda like a black hat with cute doggee prints and they even have matching single food bowls that you could get if you are an artsy soul

(3) More Expensive in cost - But quality is obvious - Currently on sale on their website - they sell the filters on Amazon - Go to Dr Fosters and Smith

(4) Our picky dog loves it! Our dog finally is drinking out of a pet fountain and he enjoys it! He loves the little slide like area where the water goes down the side and likes the pooling.

(5) Cleans easily - Light cleaning in the sink and it's only a few pieces

Well, hopefully this will help everyone out. I'm tired of going through fountain after fountain and was greatful to finally find a product that our dog loves and which is beautiful to boot. These plastic fountains are just awful and not worth it. Unless you have a pet that's totally not fussy - the way to go is with the ceramic one - not this brand. I know that some people gave it good reviews but I've compared both fountains and I can tell you, there's a HUGE difference. That's VERY deceptive and illegal to tie unwritten limitations on their packaging to their guarantee when it is not stated on their pkg. (What if their unwritten policy required 6 mos. usage, as an example, before refund is considered?) Satisfaction guaranteed means just that: if you're not satisfied (and I am NOT!), you get your money back. If the pkg. said, "Satisfaction guaranteed AFTER 3 mos. of usage", I wouldn't be arguing here. They told me that Frontline was not designed to repel fleas, so it's of no help if another flea(s) comes around after application. It only will "kill" them once they are on the dog after a day or so. I have been told, but haven't verified, that Advantix DOES repel them so I will try that brand. I had a Petmate for years, very reliable, my cat liked it. After the fountain died I decided to go to a Drinkwell to give my cat a new experience.

My first experience with the Drinkwell was that it was a very loud water fountain, water noise. It was disturbing. My cat decided he didn't want anything to do with it. I tried different settings and it was still too loud and than one day, before dissembling it and getting rid of it, I decided to turn the water setting all the way down. The fountain became very quiet, and finally my strong willed cat began to drink from it. The water flow is acceptable. I am happy.

I like it better than the Petmate, it contains more water in its reserve bottle and is a little bit easier to clean. If you are buying a cat fountain because you want less work, filling a bowl daily is much, much easier. You do need to clean these fountains every few weeks or sooner depending on various factors. It is a chore but brushes makes it a bit easier. I just use hot water a sponge and brushes without soap until it feels squeaky again.

The pre-filter before the pump is great idea, the carbon filter is easy to replace but a bit expensive, but it is a good idea to keep it as clean as you can.

The only negative is the slight hum when the top lid is not on tight, you can make it go away, but from time to time it comes back. It is larger than the Petmate but for me it is nice having more water available.

If money is a factor, the Petmate is a good deal, mine lasted for three years, I could have replaced the pump for 19 dollars. My cat immediately liked the Petmate. I actually ran the thing out of water for a while and it still worked without burning up the pump.

The INSTANT it hit her nail she freaked so hard that she dislocated her hip (as someone falmiliar with this dislocation, let me tell you you wish you were giving birth; that's so much more pleasant). I've never seen anything like it. Every muscle in her body activated to get away. When I bought this, I thought it was just compressed air, but it isn't. It contains HFC134A refrigerant...and yes, it's damaging to the environment and not entirely safe unless you take caution when using it.

Another product called the Pet convincer uses compressed co2 cartridges, so it is refillable and not dangerous nor is it damaging to the environment. The pet convincer costs more up front but the refill cartridges are cheap and plentiful.

I don't recommend the pet corrector unless you can't find the pet convincer anywhere. I bought both products and they both arrived in the last 2 days. I tried both and the pet convincer seemed to be more effective even though the Pet Corrector product gave off a much more powerful sounding hiss.

I think this product is basically the same as the compressed gas you can buy for cleaning computer keyboards and the pet corrector is more expensive than the typical can of "compressed air".

If you don't care about the potential danger of this product, it does seem to be effective. It seems to be a workable way to correct your dog from unwanted behavior, but I don't like the fact that it uses a refrigerant.

The 50 ml cannister is a very handy size and my big dissapointment stems from the fact that it's not compressed air as I thought when I ordered it.

I bought this carrier as a Zhu-zhu pet carrier, rather than for a live pet. It actually works great as a toy carrier. It is very good looking and easy to open and close and holds four zhu-zhu pets with plenty of room for some small accessories. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5-stars is the fact that is isn't holding its shape. The carrier is starting to sag a little and nothing I can do will make it come back to its original shape. It isn't horrible, but it doesn't look quite as nice as it did originally.

I do have guinea pigs and this case will easily hold one of them, both of them if I need to take them somewhere quickly. Thanks to Kathleen's review of the PETCO Blue and White Kitty Crinkle Tunnel, I found this wider, cushier, expandable kitty play tunnel. My cat Tiger played in it constantly when I first bought it (April 2010) and can still be found sleeping in the felt-lined interior at times. I have two tunnels and one connector tee so he also likes to play with the ties that connect each part. My cat Turvy is not as excited about it but his form of play seems to involve me chasing him. So now I chase him through the tunnel where, upon exit, he attacks the scratching post on the kitty condo and waits for me to come pet/scratch/snorgle him. Tiger doesn't play in it as much these days so I'm not sure if he tires of new toys easily or if the hotter weather has something to do with it since the tunnel is lined. All in all, I am really glad I made the purchase. I have gone through three pet fountains well before their natural lifespan because the calcium and other sediment in our local water builds up so badly on the plastic that no amount of decalcification and cleaning will get it off. While it's theoretically no harm to our cat, it bothers me that it ends up looking so icky and that the plastic starts feeling rough. I've even tried using the water that's gone through our Brita filter, but either we forget to use it or the build-up just happens anyway. One of the fountains we had used in the past had a stainless steel track but a plastic reservoir. I thought that might help, and it did. The track was easy to clean and stayed nice, but the plastic bowl and reservoir got the same build-up.

After my most recent fountain started looking not-so-fresh, I decided to search again for a pet fountain. Finally, someone has made one of these fountains almost entirely out of stainless steel! I ordered it right away. In fact, I ordered it on Friday and it arrived on Sunday (yes, SUNDAY). Setup was very easy. The design is very elegant, and, thanks to the curves, there's no corners for things to get caught in. The stainless steel parts are incredibly easy to clean.

The only plastic part is the case enclosing the pump and the filter. It's a plastic clamshell piece. It's small enough that I think the calcification won't be as much of a problem with it. Also, it's hidden, so if it is just a matter of it not looking as nice, you aren't looking at it.

Best of all, this fountain operates silently. I know many of the fountains say this, but this one really does run silent. I think that is part of why my cat took to it right away. We usually had to wean him from one to another, but this one he went right up to and drank...no "break-in" period.
